Let my experience in Theatre help your production Shine!
Theresa Flais has specialized in directing productions for audiences for over 25 years. Upon graduating with a BA in Theatre and Directorial Arts from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio in the early 1990’s, she honed her writing skills by crafting several plays. Theresa continued to experiment and grow as a director with teaching and directing experiences at The Youngstown Playhouse.
After focusing her studies at Miami University's Graduate program on Theatre History and Creative Drama, Theresa started working for The Kirov Ballet in Washington, DC forming a part-time acting program for dancers to understand the storyline behind their part.
After leaving the Washington, DC area, Theresa started her company, The Theatre Lab. The Theatre Lab started as a comedy/mystery dinner theatre production, however, through the years, has grown beyond expectations.
Through the years, The Theatre Lab produced sister companies such as Spontaneous Combustion, an Improv group similar to the TV show, "Whose Line is it Anyway".
Another entity of The Theatre Lab is our Tykes Trying out Theatre. TTOT is our Summer Theatre Camp for kids between the ages of 5-8. This is a fun and exciting camp that encourages young children to use their imaginations and create a show through playtime.
The Theatre Lab Summer Theatre Camp is for kids between the ages of 9-18. This camp is very hands-on! The students actually write, produce and star in their own productions. They learn how to make costumes, work sound, stage manage, and market their production. At the end of the week, the final product is viewed by families and friends! During 2009, 2010, and 2011, Theresa worked with Dublin City Schools and Worthington City Schools.
Theresa's passion is to present quality educational theatre productions to young audiences and family audiences; to introduce multicultural and/or historical themes that may be unique or unfamiliar; and to delight and engage these audiences at the same time.

THEATRE ARTS WORKSHOPS
Workshops for Drama Teachers can be presented on a variety of topics to either supplement or refresh theatre arts curriculum already taught.
HERE ARE ONLY SOME OF OUR WORKSHOPS BELOW:
Theatre Arts Development Workshops include:
Commedia dell'arte - A hands-on workshop, where teachers review the history of the improvisational style of commedia, the stock characters, and the use of Lazzi. Teachers participate in exercises such as enacting stock characters, experimenting with Lazzi, creating short scenes incorporating Lazzi and spontaneous dialogue, and exploring movement with comedic facial exaggeration and double takes. Information packets are distributed with reference material and activities for teachers to use in their own classrooms. (2 - 3 hour workshop)
Greek Theatre - A hands-on workshop, which provides teachers with an interactive method to help students review the historical background of Greek theatre. Teachers also participate in a group acting exercise, which incorporates Greek choral work, pantomime, tableau, movement, and gesture. Information packets are distributed with reference material and activities for teachers to use in their own classrooms. (2 - 3 hour workshop)
Theatre as a Business - – a lecture on how to start your theatre company on a shoe string budget. How to get your new company noticed through all media outlets. How to network and how to create buzz!(1 -2 hour/high school through college level)
